Spend your summer on the lake!
Whether you’re headed to New England, California or somewhere in between this summer, there is no better family vacation in the USA than a week or two at the lake. The best news of all is that it needn’t cost a fortune. Lake Cottage rentals are a reasonably priced family alternative to roughing it in a tent or putting up with boring, expensive cookie cutter hotel chains. Cabin rentals by the day or week often come with complete kitchen facilities that allow you to prepare your own leisurely meals and avoid unhealthy fast food and costly sit-down restaurants. And let’s not forget the many private homes for rent that are available when you want all the comforts right at your fingertips.
So take out that road atlas, look for the blue lakes and see where your finger lands!
New England
Lake Winnipesaukee, New Hampshire – From Weirs Beach and Laconia to Meredith Bay and Center Harbor, family fun abounds at Lake Winnipesaukee. Take a cruise on the M/S Mount Washington, choo-choo along on the Winnipesaukee Scenic Railroad, play miniature golf or skee-ball, see a NASCAR race at the speedway or spend the evening relaxing at a drive-in movie or an outdoor concert at the Meadowbrook.
Midwest
Lake Superior, Wisconsin/Minnesota/Michigan/Ontario – When you’re not out canoeing or angling for walleye, bass or pike on the westernmost of the Great Lakes, you can enjoy a gondola ride, see a play at the Arrowhead Center, take a shopping trip into Thunder Bay across the Canadian border or check out the blacksmith shop and trading post at an authentic century-old logging camp.
South
Lake Ouachita, Arkansas – Go scuba diving, water skiing or take the boat out to one of more than 100 uninhabited islands. Cabin rentals are plentiful and an easy way to enjoy the beauty of the Natural State. Try your hand at some of the best bass fishing in the USA, visit the famous hot springs or go digging in a quartz crystal mine over at Mount Ida.
West
Lake Tahoe, Nevada/California – Take advantage of one of the many Lake Cottage rentals or private homes for rent on the north or south shore. Horseback riding, mountain biking and hiking the trails of the Sierras are a few of the endless options for family fun in the cool mountain air. And don’t forget the big name shows and casinos over in Stateline!
