Are you covered?
How many people do you know who rent their home or apartment yet do not protect themselves against damage or theft. The numbers are surprisingly high even though there are companies in every city who offer renters insurance. This may be due to some myths surrounding renters insurance and how people perceive their situations. Some feel that the cost of paying renters insurance is not worth what is contained in the home, but they are not realizing that all the electronics we use on a daily basis really add up in cost. Everything from phones to camera’s even books or appliances all add up and the cost to replace everything you own can be devastating.
Other people will in fact look at the cost of everything they own and see just how much it could add up to but they believe the cost of the insurance is to high to justify the means. The truth is far from this, in fact some companies offer renters insurance for as little as ten dollars a month. When looking at this compared to everything you own of monetary value it is just a drop in the bucket. Most companies also offer discounts for things like smoke alarms or having fire extinguishers and other alarm and safety measures. So Not only are you making yourself and your family safer you are saving money too.
Within this same line of thinking people feel that time is money and do not want to spend the needed time in order to obtain the needed insurance. They feel it is a long drawn out process to obtain insurance for anything but this is a complete myth. Some companies offer a complete online process that is quick simple and easy to accomplish.
The worst myth floating around is people really do believe their landlords home owners insurance will also cover them. Nothing could be further from the truth. A landlords insurance will only cover the building not each individuals personal items. Therefor if there is a fire or brake in, yes the property itself will be covered but you will not be. The landlord has insurance and will not have to pay for any repairs but if a person doesn’t they will have to pay to repair their lives and their own property. Thinking along these lines what would a person do if say the building they lived in was uninhabitable for a certain period of time. Only renters insurance would pay for you to live somewhere else.
Another myth surrounding renters insurance is that people feel their buildings are safe and secure from not only break ins but disasters as well. It must be said that no home is safe enough, disasters happen and even accidents happen that cause water damage or fire. Now a days even the burglars are getting smarter and more sophisticated with their equipment. So no matter how safe we think we are there is always that chance that something could happen
